It’s been an exciting week in the Agnes / Sam farmhouse! We got tattoos!
As you can see in the above picture, he already had one – a snake in a lemon tree – but he was pretty stoked about this new piece.
Sam’s a pork-loving chef and recently took a class on meat fabrication. So a hog butcher chart thing (I’m sure there’s a name for that but I’m not the chef in the family!) outlined with the state of Iowa is pretty perfect for him.
Of course mine was going to be literary and of course it was going to come from The Grapes of Wrath! A fuller version of the quote is, “And since, when a joyful thing happened, they looked to see whether joy was on her, it was her habit to build up laughter out of inadequate materials.”
As many of you know, I’m a recovering drug addict and alcoholic. I’m grateful to say that I’ve been sober since September 2, 2012 and today my life is unrecognizable from what it was 3 1/2 years ago. My life was such a mess for so long and I thought I’d broken all the good things in me. As it turns out, I was able to build up a shining life that I look forward to waking up to every day. Out of inadequate materials.
And some cats! Because I heard a rumor that people on the internet like to look at pictures of people’s cats. The slick on the cushion is Dry Bones and the fluff in front of him is Gristle.
