Book Review | The Thorn and the Blossom by Theodora Goss

I received The Thorn and the Blossom from the publisher and was immediately intrigued by the unique accordion binding, which makes for a really unique way to read both sides in this love story. It’s better explained in this short video.

While I did immediately love the packaging, I was also a bit apprehensive about the content. I’m not always the first person to jump on a love story, and I was concerned that the packaging was just a gimmick to suck you in and that the substance wouldn’t be there. Luckily, I had no need to worry because this book was completely charming.

It is both sides to the same love story, and while both sides do have plenty of overlap, the author masterfully ensured that either side could be read first and the reader would understand what was going on, while also ensuring that when it came time to flip and read the other side, there wouldn’t be dull redundant information.

The story was adorable, unique, and had just the right amount of tension and intrigue. When it was over, I briefly wished that it were much longer, but soon came to the conclusion that there is nothing missing from this book. It is about as flawless as a book can be.
